Walk The Talk America: The Bridge Our Community Has Needed All Along

This post was originally published on this site.

In the firearms world, we take pride in readiness. Being trained, equipped, and switched-on for whatever life throws our way. But one threat continues to fly under the radar, even though it hits closer to home than most of us like to admit: mental health.

That’s where Walk The Talk America (WTTA) steps in. And if you’re not familiar with them yet, you should be, because their mission directly impacts our community, our families, and the culture we fight to protect.

What Is Walk The Talk America

Walk The Talk America is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit laser-focused on connecting two worlds that rarely sit at the same table. The mental health professionals and the firearm-owning public.

WTTA understands something many institutions still miss: the firearm community isn’t the problem, it’s a crucial part of the solution. By speaking our language and treating gun owners with respect, WTTA builds trust where other approaches have failed.

Their foundational belief is simple and powerful: When gun owners have better access to mental health support (without stigma, fear, or judgment) we can reduce firearm-related suicide and strengthen our culture from within.

What They Do

WTTA’s work isn’t theory. It’s boots on the ground, resources in hand, and action you can use right now.

Free, Anonymous Mental Health Screenings

Quick, private, judgment-free check-ins developed with Mental Health America. No labels. No databases. And no fear of losing your rights. Just a moment to make sure you or someone you care about is okay.

Gun-Owner–Focused Resources

WTTA produces printable flyers, toolkits, safe-storage guides, and mental-health plans. And distributes them where gun owners actually are: gun shops, ranges, manufacturers, and industry events.

Training for Mental-Health Professionals

WTTA offers “cultural competence” classes that teach clinicians what gun culture really looks like; beyond stereotypes and headlines. When professionals understand the community, gun-owning clients get better care.

Education & Outreach

Their Guns & Mental Health podcast brings together experts in firearms, law enforcement, mental health, and training for candid, stigma-free conversations about keeping ourselves squared away.

Innovation in Safe Storage & Prevention

Through programs like the ROOTS Project, WTTA spotlights new safe-storage ideas and works with health and safety professionals to develop smarter, proactive strategies for reducing risk.

Why It Matters

Firearm-related suicide is one of the most pressing, and overlooked, public health issues in America. But here’s the key: Most gun owners avoid mental-health services not because they don’t care, but because they fear being misunderstood, judged, or treated as a threat.

WTTA eliminates that friction by speaking both languages:
  • The language of responsible gun ownership
  • The language of modern mental-health care

They don’t draw battle lines, they build bridges. And those bridges save lives.

Who WTTA Serves
  • Gun owners and families who want mental-health support that respects firearm ownership
  • Therapists looking to understand gun culture
  • Retailers, instructors, and manufacturers who want to weave mental-health awareness into their operations
  • Communities committed to reducing suicide without compromising rights

In other words: All of us.

How You Can Back the Mission
  • Take a free, anonymous screening
  • Share WTTA’s downloadable flyers and toolkits
  • Encourage mental-health pros you know to complete WTTA training
  • Get your range, shop, or company involved
  • Donate or help amplify their message

It’s simple: Owning a firearm and taking care of your mental health aren’t opposing ideas, they’re a matched set.

Here’s the big news, and one we’re proud of.

Bleecker Street Publications, the parent company of Athlon Outdoors, has officially committed to Walk The Talk America as a Platinum Partner, joining legacy leaders like Ruger and Armscor USA. This isn’t a press-release handshake. It’s a real investment in real change.

Responsible firearm ownership includes preparation for every threat, including threats to mental health,” said Charles Anderson, CEO of Bleecker Street Publications. “Partnering at the Platinum level with WTTA is about building stigma-free pathways to help gun owners and their families get the support they need—while preserving the culture of safe and responsible gun ownership.

Why This Partnership Matters

  • Health and safety go hand in hand. Firearm skills, gear, and training matter—but mental health must be part of that equation.
  • Trusted voices make the impact. When the message comes from inside the community, people listen.
  • Resources will reach millions. WTTA tools, safe-storage guides, and mental-health materials will now be integrated across Athlon Outdoors platforms.
  • It strengthens prevention. Evidence-based strategies will make their way into more homes, shops, and ranges than ever before.

WTTA Founder Michael Sodini summed it up perfectly:
Reaching new audiences has historically been one of our biggest challenges. Partnering with Bleecker Street Publications helps us do exactly that.

This is the next step in a mission that directly affects the firearms community and one that we at Athlon Outdoors are honored to stand behind.

In Short

Walk The Talk America is reshaping how firearm owners access mental-health support without sacrificing culture, rights, or identity. Their work saves lives, strengthens communities, and reinforces what responsible gun ownership truly means.

And now, with Bleecker Street Publications stepping up as a Platinum Partner, WTTA’s reach, and impact, is about to grow in a way this industry hasn’t seen before.

Because readiness isn’t just about the gear you carry. It’s about taking care of the person carrying it.
